What is Xen-Tan?

Why self-tan?

It is surprising to some that 90 percent of wrinkling, sagging, rough skin texture or irregular skin colorations seen when you look in the mirror is not caused by aging. Exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays is the #1 enemy of skin, not the aging process. Many consider a tan to be protection from the sun, unfortunately, a tan can be considered damaged skin. Sunburn or not, the risk of skin cancers is determined by the life-long accumulation of exposure to the sun. You can help prevent sunburns by staying out of the sun, wearing sunblcok, or using sunless tanning sets provided by Xen-Tan.



What is DHA?

DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is the active ingredient used in sunless tanning products. It is a sugar molecule that reacts to the amino acids or proteins on the surface of the skin. The level of DHA controls how dark and natural the colour looks. Too much DHA can lead to a "rusty", irregular look and too little DHA results in an ineffective tan that fades too quickly. XEN-TAN uses a high level of DHA, but is carefully formulated for a dark, natural tan - balanced with moisturizing ingredients to guarantee a smooth, streak-free application and tan.



Which product is right for me?

All Xen-Tan self-tanning products are formulated to work on any skin tone, even the fairest of skins. A sheer application with most products will give a light to medium tan and a heaver application will provide a darker tan. Therefore, you should pick based on texture and if you want an instant colour.



What if I am very fair-skinned?

It's not "fair" that most self-tan products in the past looked the best on people who already have a tan. XEN-TAN sunless tanning products are formulated to flatter people with even the fairest skins. Technology has improved greatly in the self-tan market and we can now produce a very realistic colour that makes even the fairest skin look naturally darker. The dark-tanning formulas are actually better for fair skin than lighter-tanning products. For those shy of dark "instant" colour, try the Dark Mousse which results in the same beautiful dark tan, but has a light/sheer instant colour. Xen-Tan is great for fair skinned individuals - you can now enjoy a beautiful tan without the damage of the sun or tanning beds.



How do I apply it?

Directions are on the bottle, as well as our website www.xen-tan.net gives detailed directions. Most products you just rub in the product. We do offer a mitt to help with the application as well.



How long will it Xen-Tan take to develop?

Technology has changed rapidly in the world of sunless tanning. What used to take eight hours now takes just three! XEN-TAN sunless tanning products not only develop in 3 hours, the "instant" colour allows you to look tan immediately so you can look better on your way out of the house. Many of our customers use the Dark Mist as a quick fix before going to the gym to make muscles look more defined and skin more toned and tan. Just wait three hours before showering and you have a long-wearing dark self-tan. You can still sleep in your self-tan lotion, mousse or spray if it is easier for you, but because of XEN-TAN's great scent and lighter texture, tanning during the day is now an option.



Which product gives the darkest tan?

Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe, and Mist Intense provide the deepest and darkest tan.



Can I use Xen-Tan on face and body?

All Xen-Tan products are safe for face and body. We do make products that are specifically for the face; these products are gentle and have added treatment ingredients.

Face Tanner Luxe N$216, same as Face Tanner but with instant colour. Added tanning ingredient for deeper colour. Contains Gingko, Vitamin E and Green Tea.



How do I apply it to my back?

Do you live alone and wonder how you are ever going to get self-tan applied to your back?
Our Hard to Reach is a back applicator that works with any self-tan lotion, mousse, or mist to make tanning easier. Place product directly onto back applicator and apply to skin. To prepare Hard to Reach for use, gently open back applicator until your hear it click into place. To replace pad remove the used pad from the applicator. Remove the backing paper from the new pad and press onto applicator. For best results rinse pad with luke warm water and leave to dry after each use. Hard to Reach includes 5 replaceable foam pads that may last up to 2 years with proper care. Hinge folds for easy storage and travel.



Do I need to exfoliate before tanning?

All Xen-Tan products work on their own, but it does add a day or two to the length of your tan if you use the Body Scrub first. It also helps to refine the surface of the skin for a smoother tan.



All the Products cruelty-free and paraben-free?

All Xen-Tan products are cruelty-free. We do not test on animals. All of our newest formulas are paraben-free.



I’m allergic to nuts. Can I use your product?

All Xen-Tan products sold in Namibia would be safe to use, although people with a severe nut allergy should be cautious as often other products that include nut oils are processed at the same laboratories.



I’m allergic to glutens. Are your products gluten-free?

Xen-Tan products do not have glutens however they are processed in laboratories that make all kinds of products so it’s possible they could come in contact with glutens. If you have a serious allergy to glutens you would need to check first with your doctor before using any Xen-Tan product. The creator of Xen-Tan is a gluten-intolerant person herself and has eaten a special gluten-free diet for 12 years. She has never had a problem using the products she created. We have yet to hear of people having issues with gluten outside of digestion. However, if you have had special warning from doctors or health professionals regarding cosmetic products with glutens please let us know. If so, will you let us know so we can look into this further.



Can I use the product if I’m pregnant?

We suggest that all pregnant women talk to your doctor before using any product, cosmetic or otherwise during pregnancy. We know of no known issues with sunless tan but your doctor should give the final word on the safety of any product while pregnant.



Do the products have an expiration date?

All Xen-Tan products last a year and a half after purchasing. They should be used within six months after opening.
